I was joined by Dylan Zimmerman from music podcast A Feedback Loop to discuss what he describes as “the best Star Trek movie,” Galaxy Quest.
Some of the topics we discussed are listed below.
-what else Dylan Z is watching on Netflix (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
-the current state of Star Trek, particularly the reboot films, including this gem of a trailer
–Galaxy Quest‘s decision to go with a softer, less dark and gritty tone
-Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen) as the William Shatner analog
-Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver), using her role as a so-called “bridge bunny” to highlight the absurdities of the series
-Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman), who always feels better than his circumstances but could never walk away
-Tony Shaloub as “it’s okay, we’re diverse because we called this character ‘Chen’… don’t ask too many questions” and possible stoner Fred Kwan
-redshirt analog Guy Freegman (Sam Rockwell)
-Enrico Colantoni’s take on the Thermians and what makes the aliens so absurd and unique
-why the Thermians probably couldn’t have picked a better show to base a culture around
-when Star Trek is at its best and at its worst
-the camaraderie of the crew
-we give the movie a rating out of 5 stars for our own Netflix profiles and assign an MVP from the film
