The NetFlakes Podcast #38: Armageddon w/ David L. Clark

Who better than an astronomer to debunk the bad science of Armageddon? I’m joined by Western University’s David L. Clark to talk about what would and wouldn’t explode, what’s wrong with the movie’s plan to destroy the asteroid, and ultimately, why sacrificing science for entertainment can do far more harm than good.

The comet-tracking project David mentions is called Rosetta and can be found here as it follows, tracks, and photogrpahs Comet 67P/Churyomov-Gerasimenko.

If you’d like to check David’s math, here’s how he got to the conclusion that the nuke wouldn’t quite get the job done.
