Comedy Bang Bang! – Seasons 1-3
The other week, we were talking about Marc Maron’s podcast spin-off TV series, Maron. Apparently Comedy Bang! Bang!, another podcast also has a show, which has also recently been released on Netflix. I’ve been told the podcast is a laugh a minute so I have to imagine I’ll tune into this show at least once to watch host Scott Aukerman (who I know from his Sharknado episodes of How Did This Get Made?) talk to a bevy of celebrity guests.
Jessica Jones – Season 1
Because you’re on the internet, I have to assume that you have heard of Jessica Jones, Marvel’s latest Netflix original series, following the incredible success of Daredevil. I haven’t watched it yet (or Daredevil for that matter) but the buzz is highly positive. As well, David Tennant is apparently especially creepy as supervillain Kilgrave and is giving many Doctor Who fans weird, funny feelings.
What’s odd about this movie is that it barely exists online. While I don’t pretend to be familiar with director Xavier Beauvois, his filmography speaks to a fairly well-respected career. Still, The Price of Fame (or La Rançon de la Gloire) has literally no critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and only 14 user ratings. Based on a true story, the movie tells the tale of a poor immigrant who tries to steal Charlie Chaplin’s recently deceased corpse in order to hold it for ransom.
River – Season 1
River is a not-quite Netflix original series that owes its international distribution to our favourite streaming service. I’ve had this show recommended to me but when I pressed for details, I was refused for fear of spoilers. What I do know is that it stars Stellan Skarsgård (who I’m just fresh off of watching in Deep Blue Sea) as a detective who may have some communication with the dead. I was also thrilled to see that second billing belongs to Nicola Walker, whose performance in an early episode of Luther completely blew me away.
